The attempt on the normal route of the Matterhorn ends just 9 minutes short of the record

Nadir Maguet completed his latest attempt on the Matterhorn, stopping the clock at 3:01:48, just 9:46 off the current FKT record. This result doesn’t improve on the record, but it represents the culmination of a project built over the years on one of the most iconic mountains in the Alps.

The Aosta Valley athlete from the La Sportiva team has once again tackled the normal route of the Matterhorn, one of the most significant challenges of his sporting and personal journey. A climb that demands technique, endurance, and a deep knowledge of the Alpine environment, undertaken with meticulous preparation and a special bond with this mountain.

The climb to the Matterhorn: 14 kilometers and 2,500 meters of elevation gain

The route taken by Maguet is approximately 14 kilometres long and has a 2,500 metre elevation gain, starting from Breuil-Cervinia (2,025 m) and arriving at the cross located below the summit at 4,476 metres, before returning along the same route.

A historic trail that over the years has attracted some of the greatest exponents of mountaineering and mountain running, becoming a reference point for those seeking to test one of the most famous climbs in the Alps.

For Maguet, however, this challenge has always represented something beyond a simple timekeeping result. Born and raised at the foot of the Matterhorn, the Aosta Valley athlete has developed a profound connection with this mountain, transforming it into one of the symbols of his personal and sporting journey.

A project that began years ago at the foot of the mountain that is the symbol of the Aosta Valley

In 2023, Nadir Maguet came within five minutes of Kilian Jornet‘s record, a result that left open the possibility of a new challenge on this very special peak.

Returning to the Matterhorn once again meant retracing that history and completing a project built through years of specific training, reconnaissance, and an ever-deeper knowledge of the mountain.

La Sportiva and the value of authentic mountain challenges

La Sportiva continues to proudly support athletes who choose to take on authentic challenges, where the value of an undertaking is measured not only by the final result, but also by the journey required to achieve it.

Nadir Maguet’s Matterhorn project fully embodies this spirit: passion, preparation, dedication, and profound respect for the mountains. An experience that transcends the clock and tells the story of the relationship between an athlete and one of the most iconic peaks in the Alps.
