The gateway to the Dolomites (Bolzano) is gearing up for the new season with two new lifts and an underpass dedicated to winter hiking, offering an even more spectacular and safe mountain experience across the Obereggen–Latemar Dolomites and Carezza Dolomites ski areas.

As the summer spent in the heart of the Dolomites—far from the heat of cities and coastal areas—draws to a close, Val d’Ega (Bolzano) is already looking ahead to winter. The goal is to expand and revitalize its offerings, extending the concept of the “pleasant season” to the entire year. Always attentive to its guests’ needs, this area—part of a UNESCO World Heritage site and a leader in sustainability—is preparing for the ski season with significant upgrades to its lift infrastructure and enhancements to the overall mountain experience.
New chairlift and new T-bar lift in Obereggen
When the ski season officially opens on November 28, 2026, across the slopes of the world-class Dolomiti Superski network, Val d’Ega will be ready with a new chairlift and a new drag lift. The historic 4-seater “Obereggen” chairlift—which for 20 years connected the Obereggen–Latemar Dolomites ski area in South Tyrol with the Val di Fiemme area in Trentino—will make way for a modern 8-seater lift built by Leitner.
The new chairlift will cover a 500-meter route, overcoming a vertical rise of 93 meters. A speed of 4.5 meters per second and a transport capacity of 2,800 people per hour will allow the ascent to be completed in 1 minute and 52 seconds.
The new “Eben” T-bar lift—also designed and manufactured by Leitner—measures 479 meters in length. The lift overcomes a vertical rise of 105 meters, reaches a speed of 2.8 meters per second, and can transport up to 720 people per hour, with a travel time of 2 minutes and 52 seconds.
A new children’s park in Obereggen
The modernization of the lift facilities stems from a total investment of 14 million euros and also addresses one of the aspects that has always been central to the Val d’Ega tourism offering: a focus on families and children.
The new Brunoland children’s park will be built at the Obereggen valley station, designed to further enrich the snow experience for the youngest visitors.
The new lifts will complement the existing ones, some of which will be operational starting at 8:30 a.m. on November 27. That same day, the long season will also kick off with night skiing, thanks to the special opening of the Obereggen-Ochsenweide gondola, running from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Carezza Dolomites: greater safety for hikers
While Obereggen – Latemar Dolomites has worked to ensure a high-quality season running until the closing date of April 4, 2027, Carezza Dolomites is also introducing significant new features. Here, the winter season will run from December 5, 2026, to March 28, 2027.
One of the most significant projects is the new underpass near the Baita Messnerjoch, designed to make winter hiking routes safer and more convenient. From Frommer Alm—accessible via the König Laurin 1 gondola—hikers will be able to follow the trail toward Nigra Pass and admire views of the Catinaccio massif without having to cross the ski slope.
There is plenty of news for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts, too. The training slope at the Frommer Alm is being expanded and further optimized, offering more space and an improved course layout to better support athlete training.
The winter season: skiing, events, and activities
It is hardly surprising, then, that this region—always striving for excellence—has once again been chosen to host major events. This year, Carezza celebrates its 75th winter season and continues to offer initiatives that engage enthusiasts, including Carezza Snow Nights and Carezza on Fire.
From December 17, 2026, to March 21, 2027, the calendar will feature prestigious events such as the FIS Snowboard World Cup on the Pra di Tori slope, the FIS Telemark World Cup on the Masarè slope, and Trentino Ski Sunrise on the Pra di Tori slope.
The weekly program further enriches the season with the Saturday Icebreaker (every Saturday from December 26, 2026, to March 27, 2027), the Sunset Skiing Aperitif (every Thursday in March 2027), and the Infotour with Georg Eisath (every Tuesday from January 12 to March 23, 2027).
