Skwama, let’s start with the colors
For this celebratory edition, Skwama comes in a combination of purple and yellow, colors that recall La Sportiva’s historic palettes from the 1980s. This color choice looks to the past to showcase ten years of innovation, performance, and passion, celebrating not only the shoe, but above all the climbers who have made it an inseparable companion in their daily challenges on the rock.
Skwama is the result of a project that represents absolute excellence in terms of design and technical development. Born from the intuition and experience of La Sportiva’s R&D department, it has remained structurally unchanged from the original prototype: a rare case in a constantly evolving discipline, where versatility and sensitivity are key elements.
As Pietro Dal Pra, professional climber and member of La Sportiva’s Product Development Team, emphasizes, this is “an exception in a process where, usually, numerous steps are necessary before reaching the final result.”
Designed to accompany climbers through the most technical movements, Skwama combines precision, sensitivity, and support. The flexible construction allows you to feel every slightest contact, while the snug fit supports the foot without constriction, offering security and freedom of movement even during the most demanding heel hooks. To celebrate this important anniversary, La Sportiva is also launching Skwama Diaries, an editorial project created in collaboration with Epic TV. Through a series of video content, the format tells the stories of athletes who have entrusted Skwama with some of their most iconic feats, highlighting the more emotional and personal side of the relationship between climber and climbing shoe.
Each episode explores a true Skwama story. The first features Pietro Dal Pra, who retraces the birth and development of the model together with Luca Gabrielli, La Sportiva’s Footwear Product Manager for Climbing R&D. The series continues with testimonials from athletes who have shaped the history of contemporary climbing, including Anak Verhoeven, Siebe Vanhee, Matilda Söderlund, Reini Scherer, Adam Ondra, Jacopo Larcher, Federica Mingolla, Barbara Zangerl, and Brooke Raboutou.
