The project aimed high from the start. That’s why CMP chose to name it RIGEL, after the brightest star in the Orion constellation and one of the brightest in the entire night sky.
Over ten years after its debut, the boot has become one of the brand’s most iconic products. With over 10 million pairs sold, hundreds of colorways developed, and a consolidated market presence, RIGEL has accompanied CMP’s growth in the footwear sector.
Today its history enters a new phase with RIGEL 2.0, a new generation of the boot completely designed by the in-house team and renewed in design, construction and technical solutions.

A project born to bring color to outdoor footwear
RIGEL was born with the implementation of CMP’s footwear division, launched to expand the brand’s offering and build over time a true total look concept dedicated to the outdoors.
When the team began working on the first mountain boot, the goal wasn’t just to develop a technical and reliable product. CMP also wanted to bring the same color philosophy that had already made its apparel collections recognizable to the world of footwear.
In a market then dominated mainly by dark and basic shades, RIGEL brought color to the trails too, offering vibrant, updated and instantly recognizable combinations season after season.
This intuition allowed the model to stand out from the start and consistently express the identity of CMP, recognized as the outdoor brand of color. Over the years, hundreds of color variations have been developed, transforming RIGEL into one of the collection’s iconic products.

A history of over 10 million pairs
Over the years, RIGEL sales have grown along with CMP’s entire footwear category. In the last five years, the number of pairs produced has more than doubled, and overall, the model has sold over 10 million pairs across Europe and beyond, in its various variations.
A result that can also be described with a symbolic image: if you lined up all the RIGELs sold, you could cover the length of Italy approximately twice.
The model’s success also extends across all segments of the public. Approximately 30% of pairs are for children, while the remainder are split roughly evenly between men and women.

RIGEL 2.0, a new generation designed in-house
RIGEL 2.0 marks an important step in the project’s evolution. The new version is the result of the work of CMP’s in-house design team.
The shoe retains the versatility that has contributed to the model’s success and updates it with a more contemporary look and a redesigned construction to offer greater comfort, support and stability while walking.
The outsole design has been revised with the addition of a TPU medial element in the midsole, designed to offer greater support. The textured lug outsole, combined with the CMP FullOnGrip rubber compound, ensures effective grip even on uneven terrain.
The construction also combines an EVA and TPU midsole, Ortholite insole and Clima Protect waterproof membrane, maintaining the comfort, protection and reliability features that have contributed to the model’s success.
RIGEL 2.0 is available in LOW and MID versions. The LOW weighs 445 g for the men’s version and 345 g for the women’s, while the MID weighs 520 g and 450 g, respectively. The upper combines suede and polyester, echoing the aesthetic that has made the model recognizable over time, but updating it with more contemporary lines.
With this new product, CMP confirms RIGEL’s role as a “must-have” product around which to build a broad and complete footwear offering, capable of responding to both the most technical needs and more versatile interpretations, also suitable for everyday use.
