In Sardinia, we tested Tenaya‘s Indalo climbing shoe on various rock types, each requiring very different performance characteristics. A long limestone route overlooking the sea, a multi-pitch route on granite, and even a crag. Therefore, the first thing we can emphasize is the great versatility of these shoes, which adapt to a variety of uses.

Our feelings

On sharp limestone edges, the rigid toe holds very well without sacrificing sensitivity. At the same time, the curved shape and solidity of the sole provide great precision and allow for good weight transfer onto the toes, even on small and thin footholds. The grip was excellent on all types of limestone we encountered along the route. Even on granite, Indalo demonstrated its versatility, lending itself to smearing and holding well on lean slabs. The toe allows for the most prominent granite crystals, while at the same time the sole adapts well to slight flares.

This shoe’s strong point is undoubtedly its comfort. On long routes, it allows you to climb comfortably for hours without causing foot pain, despite its rather aggressive shape. We wore it on a seven-pitch route without encountering any problems. Furthermore, the lacing is very comfortable and allows you to quickly put the shoes on and off, a key feature for belays on a long route. We tested them on a south-facing granite route, and despite the sun and the heat of the rock, they were light and comfortable.

The Tenaya Indalo therefore guarantees a balanced combination of performance and comfort, adapting well to the foot without sacrificing precision. Wearable for hours, it allows for climbing on sustained grades, even on multi-pitch routes, while ensuring solidity and accuracy at the crag. We haven’t tried it on bouldering, where the curvature and solidity of the sole certainly facilitate foot loading and heel strikes, even on high grades.
