Stepping inside the FarPointe headquarters, just off Highway 101 along the Oregon coast, you enter an environment populated by hikers, trail runners, backpackers, bikers, and adventure lovers. These people bring the same passion they experience on the trails to their work. For the team, time spent in nature is an integral part of their identity, which is why the “Life Outside First” philosophy is at the heart of the company and guides every decision.

FarPointe is a small, ever-growing company founded by people who live in the mountains and the outdoors. We’ve decided to keep the entire production process under one roof to stay close to both the products we make and the people who use them. Our goal has always been to prioritize quality over volume, creating garments designed to accompany customers on many adventures thanks to their performance.
Joe La Pointe, founder & CEO.
Born from the path
The idea for FarPointe was born at the end of a 30-day trek along the Colorado Trail, a route over 500 miles long. During that experience, Joe LaPointe kept thinking about a technical fabric he’d discovered on the trip and wondered if it could replace the heavy 200-gram beanie he wore every night.
So he decided to learn to sew on his own and began making the first ultralight hats using Polartec® Alpha™ in his garage. Success was immediate: the products were selling faster than he could produce them. He then left his job in the restaurant industry to dedicate himself fully to what is now a manufacturing company, where every garment continues to be designed, cut, sewn, and finished in-house.

Field tested
At FarPointe, product development stems directly from field experience. Morning runs in the woods, weekend hikes, and long days spent in nature become the ideal laboratory for experimenting with new solutions and perfecting every detail.

Refined by use
Over time, FarPointe has grown alongside a community of outdoor enthusiasts. Endurance athletes like Will Ditto, expert hikers like Katie Gerber, and adventure storytellers like Cotezi, Scott, and Becky have put the brand’s products to the test in the most demanding conditions.
Innovations like the Alpha Cruiser, made with Polartec® Alpha™, have helped expand the brand’s recognition. However, for Joe La Pointe, the company’s value extends far beyond the individual product: demonstrating that responsible, meticulous, and local production can still set a benchmark in the outdoor industry.

Made by outdoor enthusiasts for outdoor enthusiasts
FarPointe is a small American manufacturer that believes knowing the origins of its products and the people who make them is a valuable asset. Even today, each piece is designed, cut, sewn, and finished in the same facility by a team that spends as much time on the trails as it does in front of the sewing machines.
In a market where outdoor gear is often considered a mere commodity, this approach is a distinctive feature. And that’s exactly what FarPointe wants to preserve.
It’s no surprise, then, that long-distance hiker Will Ditto chose FarPointe gear to set the fastest time ever recorded on the Lone Star Trail. Results like this confirm the company’s mission: to create products designed to be used in extreme conditions by people who share a genuine passion for the outdoors.
