Why resole your shoes?
Over time, even the most durable boots show signs of wear.
Cracks in the midsole, loss of traction, or a sole that begins to peel off are the first warning signs.
These are natural effects due to the hydrolysis process, which affects materials as they age. When the tread is worn, stability and traction decrease, especially on uneven terrain.
Expert advice: Inspect your shoes at least once a year—before or after the hiking season—checking the tread, lugs, and midsole.

How the resoling service works
At the Hanwag headquarters in Vierkirchen, Germany, each pair undergoes a careful inspection by specialized technicians.
Then the true craftsmanship begins:
- Removing the old sole – The sole is cut and removed, along with any residue and the protective edge (rock guard).
- Reconstruction and reapplication – The entire sole structure is rebuilt: the protective edge is restored, and a new sole with integrated shock-absorbing wedge is glued and precisely finished.
- Finishing touches – Upon completion, the shoes receive a new insole, new laces, and final finishing touches.
The result? Refurbished boots, ready to hit the trails with the same reliability as always.
The advantages of resoling
- Safety on any terrain
A new tread pattern means greater grip and stability: the foundation for safe travel on any type of terrain. - Maintained comfort
Your shoes are already molded to the shape of your foot. Resoling allows you to maintain that perfect fit that only time can create. - Smart savings
Resoling costs much less than buying a new pair of boots, but guarantees the same brand-name quality and performance. - Sustainable choice
Extending the life of your shoes means reducing waste and resource consumption: a concrete gesture for nature.

“In Germany alone, we resole around 20,000 pairs of boots a year, and the number is growing. It’s a service we also offer in many other countries,” Hanwag explains.
