Anyone who thinks that for a two-hour one-way trip, relying on a sports or trail running shoe is the best choice in terms of comfort is very wrong.

For hiking? Hiking shoes are best.

Or rather, leaving aside the terrain, it depends largely on the speed at which you’re walking and the load you’re carrying. This is because a sports or trail running shoe doesn’t offer the stability you need when walking at a slow pace. It depends on the sole compound, the stabilizing elements within them, and the structure of the upper.

A shoe designed for hiking and trekking is the best choice for these activities and the latest addition to the Scarpa range confirms this recommendation.

Hiking, trekking. What’s the difference? It’s mainly a question of duration and load. Hiking is a day-long walk undertaken with a moderate load, while trekking is a walk in daily stages where you carry a fairly bulky backpack.

Mustang TRK – GTX, how they are made

The Mustang TRK, in the Mid version only, is designed to offer versatility for both uses. It’s not very heavy—about 500 g in size 38—and the midsole isn’t too firm, but it’s dynamic. The upper isn’t too rigid, but it’s snug enough.

It is a modern boot, both in design and conception, with a medium fit and the comfort that only Scarpa, with an unsurpassed tradition in defining the lasts (used in the design phase), can guarantee.

The upper combines water-repellent suede with 45% recycled eco mesh, incorporating a protective TPU rand that protects in areas subject to high abrasion. The padded collar and tongue ensure the necessary comfort, while the GORE-TEX PRISM XT lining guarantees protection from rain or stream water, with an excellent breathability coefficient. Moving downwards, the midsole is made of lightweight PU, with a protective TPU structure in the heel area and IKS (Interactive Kinetic System) geometry for enhanced comfort. The tread relies on Vibram’s experience, with an XS TREK compound and 5 mm lugs capable of providing safety on rocky or muddy terrain. The lacing system is very practical, featuring a lace-locking “hook” (in a different color) located between the instep and ankle, which allows for modulation and customization of the lacing, benefiting comfort and safety.
