LYCRA® EcoMade
Expected to hit the market later this year, this new fiber is made from corn grown annually in Iowa, helping to reduce the environmental impact of the textile supply chain. It is the first renewable elastane available at scale at a commercial level, capable of offering the same performance as standard LYCRA® fiber, without the need to redesign fabrics, manufacturing processes or apparel styles. Made of 70% renewable materials, this innovative fiber can reduce the carbon footprint of LYCRA® fiber by up to 44%.
“LYCRA® EcoMade bio-derived fiber perfectly combines sustainability, long-lasting comfort and wearability, which are increasingly sought after by consumers,” said Nicolas Baynols, Chief Commercial Officer, The LYCRA Company. “This breakthrough innovation also helps our customers achieve their sustainability goals.”
In addition to the new fiber, The LYCRA Company will also showcase its cooling and warming performance solutions – COOLMAX® and THERMOLITE® EcoMade – made entirely from textile waste, LYCRA® T400® EcoMade stretch fiber, which combines recycled and renewable materials, and LYCRA® ADAPTIV fiber, which provides a second-skin fit and promotes inclusive sizing.
On March 6, Alberto Ceria, Senior Applications Development Professional at The LYCRA Company, gave an “Expert Talk” entitled “The LYCRA® Brand’s Journey Towards Circularity: From Renewable Resources to End-of-Life Solutions.” The talk illustrated the company’s commitment to developing sustainable and circular solutions, including bio-based LYCRA® EcoMade fiber, LYCRA® fiber recycling initiatives, and the creation of virtuous cycles in line with the European Green Deal.
Bolstering the company’s presence at the event, Chris Williams, Lead Technical and Market Development Professional for The LYCRA Company, will participate in the “Trend Talk” panel discussion on March 6. The panel, titled “Making a Splash in Swimwear,” will explore key challenges in swimwear design, with Williams highlighting LYCRA® solutions designed to meet the needs of swimwear consumers.
The LYCRA® brand also returns as the main sponsor of the Bodywear Collective, located in front of its booth. Inside the Innovation Zone, it will showcase activewear, shapewear, underwear, swimwear and seamless pieces, made with high-performance fabrics supplied by the best textile manufacturers in the world. The collection will be enriched by the advanced stretch solutions LYCRA® ADAPTIV, LYCRA FitSense®, LYCRA® SPORT and LYCRA® XTRA LIFE™.
