Loved by hikers and those who consider rock climbing a challenge, suitable for those seeking the tranquility of a solitary holiday in nature and for families looking to create unforgettable memories among the most beautiful peaks in the world, the Val d’Ega, in the province of Bolzano, is a veritable playground for outdoor enthusiasts.
500 km of trails between Catinaccio and Latemar
Thanks to a tried-and-tested system of ski lifts, the Latemar and Carezza ski areas offer access to an extensive network of hiking trails in summer, for those seeking lesser-known paths as well as those who prefer those marked in guidebooks.
You can start from the Prennergut farm in Nova Levante, perhaps adventuring in the company of llamas and alpacas, or, starting from Obereggen, choose from the wide range of themed trails dedicated to fauna, flora, geology, or agriculture and immerse yourself in the magical dimension of the Latemarium among ancient woods, green meadows, rock faces, huts, and refuges.
In addition to classic trekking destinations, such as the Monte Agnello tour or the Torre di Pisa refuge discovery trail, you can try the farm tour, the circular hike to the lake, the Kirchsteig adventure trail, the Collepietra High Route, and the King Laurin Tour. You can also venture as far as the San Valentino in Campo Planet Trail, where Collepietra is the jewel in the crown of Europe’s first Astrovillage, where you can travel through the solar system.

Val d’Ega on pedals
Cycling enthusiasts also have plenty to enjoy. The Latemar Ronda is considered the pinnacle of mountain bike tours among the peaks of the UNESCO World Heritage Site: 40 km around the majestic Latemar massif, to be ridden counterclockwise (1,550 m of altitude difference, starting and finishing in Obereggen) or clockwise, also suitable for the less trained, perhaps on an e-bike, using the lifts. Other destinations include the Giro dei masi, between Carezza, Collepietra and Nova Levante (358) or the Malga Laab tour in Nova Ponente, suitable for all levels of bikers, with breathtaking views of the Catinaccio, Sciliar and Latemar.
A well-deserved relaxation
And after a day of hiking or cycling, or a busy year at work, there’s no shortage of opportunities to leave stress behind and recharge. The Val d’Ega offers tailor-made day spas for those seeking relaxation, featuring scented saunas, pools surrounded by trees, herbal teas, and soothing massages.

Regenerate body and soul
The first immersive mindfulness trail in the Alps is located in Val d’Ega: Mindful.Latemar is in Obereggen, along the circular trail on Mount Golfrion, on the slopes of the Dolomites at an altitude of 1,872 meters, a place that aims to represent an example of rebirth and resilience after being hit by Storm Vaia in November 2018.
The program, designed by Wellness Psychologist and Mindfulness Instructor Dr. Thomas Bernagozzi, includes 18 exercises that, through experiential learning and meditation techniques, allow you to learn how to retrain your attention and create moments of healing and well-being for yourself and those around you. This program can also be done independently by downloading the free app.
If you want to discover the healing power of nature, you can’t miss Forest Bathing, led by Georg Kirchmaier, an expert forestry educator and geobiologist. He will help you reconnect with nature, experience the forest’s harmonizing effect, and rediscover inner peace and balance. During the walk, immersed in the extraordinary Val d’Ega forest, you’ll breathe deeply, listen to the sounds of nature, and feel the energy of the trees.

The taste of Val d’Ega
There are also many initiatives to discover the flavors of the Val d’Ega. From July 4th to 17th, Culturinarika will take place, with three unmissable events: “Music Under the Stars” at the Viglatsch farm in Collepietra, “Chef’s Open Air – Sunset Edition” on the picturesque meadows below the Stadlalm mountain hut in Nova Levante, and “Art Affair” at the Nova Teutonica cultural center in Nova Ponente.

Soft mobility & sustainable outdoor
In Val d’Ega, tourism development goes hand in hand with environmental protection. This path toward sustainability involves all the area’s accommodations and is expressed through a series of services designed to make a holiday in this destination an authentic experience in touch with nature.
All guests staying at accommodations affiliated with the Val d’Ega Tourist Associations are exclusively offered the Alto Adige Guest Pass, which allows free and unlimited travel on public transport not only in Val d’Ega but throughout South Tyrol. E-bikes are a practical and eco-friendly means of transportation. Thanks to E-Bike Sharing, you can rent one in Nova Ponente, Nova Levante, or Obereggen and return it at the end of your ride in one of the three locations.
Finally, thanks to the Mountain Pass, you can travel 3 days out of 7 or 5 days out of 7 (from the first validation) without limitations on 17 ski lifts in the heart of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, on the Catinaccio, Latemar and Sciliar mountains.
