Athletes in the water on Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th March for the first competitive event of the season
BUGGERRU, MARCH 9, 2025 – The first event of the Italian competitive surfing season has arrived. On Tuesday 11 and Wednesday 12 March, the Buggerru Surf Trophy will be held in Buggerru, Sardinia, the first stage of the FISSW championship, the Italian Federation of Surfing, Water Skiing and Wakeboarding.
Just a few days before the start of the waiting period to await the storm, and as is now tradition, the organizers of the Buggerru Surf Club have already given the green light. Forecasts respected, with Sardinia confirming itself once again as a winning bet from a meteorological point of view and a safe place to hold national events, a factor that is not at all to be taken for granted on the Mediterranean coasts. Fifty-five young athletes competing in the under 12, under 14, under 16 and under 18 female and male categories. The competition will kick off the federal championship, based on three total stages, on south-westerly waves of about one meter.


Buggerru will come alive with about two hundred people including surfers and companions. There will be the under 18 vice-champions Costanza De Lisi and Federico Melis, the 2024 under 16 champion Chiara Cuppone, this year in the higher category, the under 14 champion Alex Filosini, the under 12 champions Caterina Congiu and Daniele Mereu. “It will be an exciting competition, full of young talents to whom we wish the best surfing – says Simone Esposito, contest director and president of the Buggerru Surf Club – and for us it is the seventh championship stage in a row, an effort and a commitment also for our town that has returned to being a nerve center not only for surfing competitions, but also for training that takes place throughout the year”.


Among the new features developed by the surf club this year, there is also live streaming: with which it will be possible to follow the exploits of the champions by connecting to the link that will be published on the social channels of the Buggerru Surf Club club. Appointment at the beach at 8:30 with the riders meeting, with a possible start of the competition at 9:00: the competition field will be chosen between the beach of the port or San Nicolò based on the weather maps that will be published tomorrow (Monday 10 March).
