The Rip Curl GromSearch International returns to Italy, the appointment is March 16, 2025 in Fregene when a medium swell from the West is expected, with waves around one meter coming from the Strait of Bonifacio. The only Italian stop on the world circuit, the competition is dedicated to young talents Under 12, Under 14 and Under 16. The winners will access the European finals.
On March 16, 2025, the legendary GromSearch International, the prestigious international surfing competition by Rip Curl, organized by ASD Barefoot in collaboration with FISSW (Italian Federation of Surfing, Water Skiing and Wakeboarding), will finally return to Italy, taking place at Levante in Fregene.
Saturday 15 March athletes check-in and a special Expression Session of pure fun, with rich prizes up for grabs, good vibes, music and lots of fun. The event represents the only Italian stop on the world circuit of Rip Curl, an iconic surfing brand that, through this competition, discovers the best emerging talents in the Under 12, Under 14 and Under 16 categories. The GromSearch is a unique event in the panorama of world surfing competitions, which has entered the collective imagination of the surfing community as the dream of every young athlete who has ever ridden a wave. The competition opens the doors of professionalism to young talents under the wings of Rip Curl, probably the most famous surfing brand in the world, which often welcomes the winners into its team of champions.
Many of today’s top-level surfers have participated in GromSearch, including Stephanie Gilmore, Carissa Moore, Gabriel Medina, Filipe Toledo, and Italo Ferreira. Talents to emerge from GromSearch include world champion Caroline Marks, world champion and Olympic silver medalist Tatiana Weston-Webb, and Olympic silver medalist Kanoa Igarashi. And let’s not forget the young stars like Caitlin Simmers and Erin Brooks, now at the top of the sport, who began their careers by winning GromSearch. The event continues to be a crucial step for those who dream of competing among the best surfers in the world.
The Italian stage
Recognized by the Federation as a Special Event, the Italian stage is organized by the historic ASD Barefoot, a pioneer in teaching surfing in Lazio, founded by Simone Giorgi and Francesco Mangino with the aim of spreading this discipline and making it accessible to all.
This competition will play a crucial role in the world series, guaranteeing the winners of each category access to the European finals of GromSearch, the first step towards winning the world title. At the starting line, all the best Italian junior talents, athletes to keep an eye on in an Olympic perspective.
