Hi Loft nano Puff, heavier but warmer

If the Patagonia Nano Puff has been the go-to for every outdoor enthusiast, and the most imitated piece by every company in the industry, the Hi-Loft Nano Puff is its warmest variant, for tackling colder climates. Here’s how it’s made.

Warmer, I was saying. While the outer fabric is the same as the Nano Puff, a sturdy 100% recycled Rip-Stop, inside we find a substantial difference:

PrimaLoft Silver Insulation Eco 170 g/m2, 100% recycled polyester for Hi-Loft Nano Puff,

PrimaLoft Gold Insulation Eco 60g/m2, 100% recycled polyester, with PURE technology, for Nano Puff.

What determines this difference? First of all, a difference in weight:

  • 760 g for Hi Loft Nano Puff Hoody
  • 400 g for Nano Puff

Compressibility and Primaloft padding

The Hi Loft Nano Puff is a jacket designed for a different purpose than the more popular model. It’s intended as an outer layer, and if you want to pack it in your backpack, it will take up a lot of space.

That said, it’s clear that the warmth is far superior to the original Nano Puff. In terms of warmth, this is a valid alternative to a warm down jacket.

Compared to a down jacket, however, the advantage lies in Primaloft technology, a water-repellent, windproof material that retains its thermal properties even when wet. Plus, it’s completely recycled and recyclable.
