Since 1988, Ortovox has used wool as a key element of its collections. From the first felted virgin wool garments to the merino baselayers that have now become a staple for mountain enthusiasts, the company’s focus on natural fibers has made it a pioneer of an approach that now dominates the entire outdoor sector.
Wool remains unbeatable for natural thermoregulation, breathability, and odor resistance, even after days of intense use. And with the new technologies developed by Ortovox, its potential reaches new levels of performance.
DownWool® by Grüezi Bag: lightness and warmth in any condition
The collaboration with Grüezi Bag has given rise to DownWool®, a hybrid technology that combines 70% RDS-certified down and 30% wool.
This fusion leverages wool’s ability to absorb moisture and keep down dry, improving its insulating capacity by up to 30% even in the presence of sweat or humidity.

The DownWool 270 Jacket, winner of the ISPO Award 2024, is the warmest model in the entire Ortovox collection: a garment designed for freeriding, winter mountaineering, and extreme conditions, featuring a windproof and water-repellent Pertex® Quantum Pro outer fabric.
A combination of protection and comfort, with a natural soul.
