In a fast-paced world, the mountains invite us to slow down. To breathe, listen, share. It is precisely this spirit that inspires Mountain Week, scheduled for August 18-24, 2025, in Malé, in the heart of Val di Sole: seven intense days of meetings, excursions, debates, cinema, literature, children’s activities, and live music.

A grassroots event, born from the commitment of a group of young local volunteers, which over time has transformed into a true collective workshop: an event that each year renews the profound bond between the mountains and those who live there, frequent them, and defend them.

Mountain Week

A territory to listen to, live and tell

The central theme of the 2025 edition is the comparison of different mountain visions and practices: from the climate crisis to exploratory mountaineering, from travel stories to the histories of Alpine communities. The festival will be preceded on August 5th by a screening of the documentary “Sui sentieri” by director Michele Trentini, a poetic and collaborative reflection on the ways of inhabiting and traversing the highlands.

The official kickoff is Monday the 18th with the talk “Breaking the Ice“: an in-depth look at the state of glaciers and the role of water as a resource to be protected, with biologist Monica Tolotti and glaciologist Cristian Ferrari.

The key events: from skiing to great exploration

On Tuesday, August 19th, there’s a moment for legend: Piazza Regina Elena will host “La Valanga Azzurra,” an evening celebrating memory, sport, and the future of Italian skiing, with Piero Gros and other special guests. Wednesday the 20th will be dedicated to travel: Alessandro De Bertolini, researcher and traveling father, will recount his bicycle journey with his children through the valleys of the Stelvio National Park.

Mountain Week

Thursday at the Cinema will feature two films from the Trento Film Festival selection: Odyssea Borealis, a kayaking expedition across the ice of Greenland, and Transcardus, the first filmed account of the ski mountaineering crossing of the Sharr, between Kosovo and Macedonia, with guide Enrico Mosetti.

The most anticipated moment will arrive on Friday the 22nd, with the participation of mountaineer Simone Moro. It will be a special evening where he will share insights and reflections from his latest book, “Gli Ottomila al chiodo,” an invitation to rethink the ethics and future of mountaineering.

Mountains to read about (and discover from an early age)

Among the most popular events are the return of “Mountains Between the Lines,” literary gatherings for reflection and dialogue through books. On Tuesday the 19th, the Alps and geopolitics will be discussed with Daniele Lazzeri and Marco Casagranda; on Wednesday, Enrico Camanni will present his Sacred Mountain; on Thursday, Luca Saltini will close the trilogy with “Serà la montagna,” a journey into the most intimate and mysterious Alpine imagery.

There’s no shortage of activities for children and young people: creative workshops, sport climbing, games, and shows with local associations. On Saturday the 23rd, outdoor activities will be enhanced by an aerial hoop display, while in the evening the festival lights will be turned on with folk concerts by Sautamartini and the rock sounds of Eighth Pyramid and Metalotzi.

Mountain Week

A bonfire to end on a high note

On Sunday, August 24th, the closing event will be the traditional Bonfire at Cimon di Bolentina: a moment of community with fire, music, and good food, to say goodbye to the mountains and renew our sense of belonging to a land that still has much to tell.

Mountain Week is organized by the Val di Sole Youth Committee in collaboration with the Municipality of Malé, the Pro Loco, and the Val di Sole Tourist Board, with the support of Ferrino and numerous local partners.
