Matteo Iachino and Justine Lemeteyer were crowned world champions, while Johan Søe and Blanca Alabau took the event victory.
Japan delivered a thrilling finale to the 2025 PWA World Tour. After a slow opening couple of days, the Fly! ANA Windsurfing World Cup Yokosuka, Miura 2025 finally got into full swing from day three onwards, while the final day saw one of the craziest days ever on the World Tour, with incredible intensity. In the end, four eliminations for the men’s category and five eliminations for the men’s category were completed, with Blanca Alabau (Starboard / Severne Sails) and Johan Søe (PATRIK / PATRIK Sails / PATRIK Foils) taking their respective victories, while Matteo Iachino (Starboard / Severne Sails) deservedly claimed his third world title and Justine Lemeteyer (PATRIK / PATRIK Sails / PATRIK Foils) overcame a rollercoaster final day to claim a second world title.
Slalom Foil
Feminine
Justine Lemeteyer (PATRIK / PATRIK Sails / PATRIK Foils) endured a final day of racing in Japan that was filled with ups and downs, both in terms of performance and emotion. The 23-year-old started the competition strongly, scoring two points in the first two races and seemed to have the world title practically in the bag heading into the final day. However, things quickly deteriorated on the final day, with several uncharacteristic errors threatening to jeopardize her chances of a second world title. In the end, however, Lemeteyer emerged virtually unscathed, crowning herself the 2025 PWA Women’s Slalom Foil World Champion.
Blanca Alabau (WeOne / Severne Sails) finished the season on a high note, winning the final heat of the event and taking her first victory since July 2023. The Spaniard looked much more like the sailor who won the 2023 world title, demonstrating excellent top speed and a fearless approach to reaching the top step of the podium, which will see her finish 2025 as runner-up world champion.
Lina Eržen (Starboard / S2Maui / Starboard Foil) struggled in the final heat of the event, having at one point looked set to win Elimination 5, the event, and the world title, but a costly fall on the penultimate leg ended her chances. Eržen completes the overall podium for 2025, but is establishing herself as a true world title contender for years to come.
After a shocking final day that no sane person could have predicted, all three athletes finished tied with 20,100 points, but Lemeteyer narrowly prevailed due to the points count.
Meanwhile, Femke van der Veen (Starboard / Severne Sails) and Mae Davico (PATRIK / PATRIK Sails / PATRIK Foils) round out the overall top five, while Bobbi-Lynn De Jong takes sixth place.
Male
Matteo Iachino’s (Starboard / Severne Sails) perfect start to the season in Guadeloupe provided the Italian with a great foundation on which to build his bid for a third world title, and he duly proved his mettle, both in Germany and here in Japan, by crowning himself the 2025 PWA Men’s Foil Slalom World Champion. Iachino consistently looked like he had the edge this season when he needed it, and sailed at an incredibly high level throughout the season, only finishing outside the top three on three occasions throughout the year, deservingly claiming his third world title.
Johan Søe (PATRIK / PATRIK Sails / PATRIK Foils) continues to sail like a machine after winning all four heats here in Japan. The Dane has not only won every heat, but also every heat over the last five days, and looks a real threat for years to come, given his methodical pace and precision. Søe’s wait for his first world title continues after missing the season-opening event in Guadeloupe, but the 22-year-old has now won the last four events he’s entered.
Pierre Mortefon (FMX Racing / NeilPryde) finishes the 2025 season as runner-up world champion after completing the podium here. Considering all the challenges and difficulties the Frenchman faced over the summer with his equipment, it’s testament to Mortefon’s mindset that he managed to retain his Slalom X world title and give Iachino a run for his money, capping off another highly successful season.
Maciek Rutkowski (JP / NeilPryde) completes the prestigious overall podium for 2025, with the Pole finishing one place higher than in 2024 after another excellent season.
Amado Vrieswijk (Future Fly / Point-7 / Z Foils) finished 2025 with a fourth place overall after two fifth-place finishes and an eighth, but there is no doubt that the Bonaria native would have hoped to be able to fight for the world title.
Meanwhile, William Huppert (PATRIK / PATRIK Sails / PATRIK Foils) rounds out the overall top five. The Frenchman achieved his best result since 2021, when he finished third, and has competed solidly all season, with three top-ten finishes.
After claiming his first overall podium in Slalom X earlier this summer, Jordy Vonk (Duotone Windsurfing) has secured his best Foil Slalom finish of sixth overall, as the Flying Dutchman continues his upward trajectory.
