German Wolf leads the way; the first junior and best Italian is Davide Scarlata, a young athlete from Circolo Surf Torbole.

After two years, the Windsurfing Formula Foil World Championship has returned to Circolo Surf Torbole, bringing the discipline’s champions back to the waters of Garda Trentino. The event, organized under the aegis of the Italian Sailing Federation, comes amidst a very busy September for the club, fresh from hosting the Italian FIV Single-handed Championships, Kinder Joy of Moving. It further confirms the Trentino-based club’s commitment to bringing consecutive, high-profile international events to Garda. The championship opened yesterday, September 10th, with cloudy weather, a northerly wind, and three races. Today, however, Garda offered its best side: thanks to the sun and a steady southerly wind of 15-18 knots, six races were completed, with a break ashore after the first three before racing resumed. After two days and nine races in total, German Wolf remains the leader with an already substantial 16-point lead. Behind him are Denmark’s Frederic Ramsgaard, who bounced back from a less than stellar start to the Championship, and Switzerland’s Justas Katkus, third, just four points behind the Dane. Davide Scarlata, representing Circolo Surf Torbole, put in an excellent performance, leading the junior standings and currently the top Italian. Other standouts in the other categories include Germany’s Levi Suemmchen, first in the youth standings, and Poland’s Laura Urbanski, the top female overall. The Formula Foil fleet will return to the water tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. to attempt to complete three more races with northerly winds, with three more races possibly added this afternoon with southerly Ora, for a potential total of six more races.

Circolo Surf Torbole thus confirms its position as the beating heart of windsurfing on Garda Trentino, capable of offering impeccable organization and logistics in a season marked by major international sporting events, which will continue in October with the IFCA Fin and Foil Slalom European Championships.
