We enter the perfect waves of Boa Vista.

“Hey, come join us at Outside Reef, a good two kilometers offshore. Meet me at 5 PM!” Wesley Brito smiles at us. And of course, we didn’t want to miss the big swell combined with Wesley’s world-class wingfoil performance for a photo shoot. The small speedboat takes us out into the open Atlantic for about 15 minutes, and while it’s still pleasant at first, it quickly becomes clear that today is a great day. More and more spray is flying over the speedboat, and by the time we arrive at Outside Reef, we’re wondering if it was really the right decision to go with Sunny, our skipper and Wesley’s best friend, because we’re soaking wet. Our jaws suddenly drop at the sight of the landscape, because it’s a goosebump-inducing atmosphere! The first set of waves is everything: huge waves build, break, and crash—or rather, crash—on the flat reef of the open Atlantic. The waves are plump like we’ve probably never seen before. And then this calm is almost frightening.
Wesley has already moved on with his partner Zany Guy, who is riding the jet ski, and now we see him on the third wave from the set. Also in the water are world-class kitesurfer Matchu Lopez, who now runs the Duotone Pro Centre in Boa Vista, and alongside him are Hawaiians Moona Whyte and Keahi de Aboitiz.
