Autumn in the Aosta Valley is a mosaic of colors, scents, and charm. The clear days and forests tinged with red and gold become the ideal backdrop for slow tourism, allowing you to rediscover the connection between nature and culture.

Autumn itineraries in and around Pila: vineyards, forests, and Alpine villages
The season is perfect for slowly exploring the historic and nature trails that connect Aosta to Pila and the surrounding towns.
- Vineyard walks: from Gressan to Jovençan, following part of stage 18 of the Cammino Balteo. Among medieval villages, rural chapels, and the Ru d’Arbérioz, an ancient irrigation canal that tells the story of the valley’s agricultural history.
- From Lake Chamolé to the Arbolle Refuge. A route that leads from the shores of the alpine lake to the refuge at 2,500 meters. From here, you can admire a panorama of the peaks of Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn, and Monte Rosa, already blanketed in the first snow.
- Gressan Open-Air Museum. A trail that blends rural life, history, and Alpine architecture, with medieval fortresses, chapels, vineyards, and the Côte de Gargantua Nature Reserve. Panoramic loops around Pila: trails that pass through still-active mountain pastures, pastures, and larch forests, dotted with art installations and panoramic “Belvedere” benches for observing the valley from above.

Experiences to live: nature and culture with all the senses
- Alongside the itineraries, autumn offers a chance to enjoy diverse experiences that intertwine nature, culture, and gastronomy.
- Hot air balloon flights: every morning, weather permitting, you can take off from the center of Aosta and observe from above the colors of the woods and the geometry of the vineyards, suspended between the Alpine giants above 4,000 meters.
- Guided tours of the Sant’Orso complex: the Romanesque cloister, collegiate church, medieval frescoes, and priory chapel recount centuries of art and spirituality. On some occasions, tours conclude with tastings of typical local products.
- Wineries and tastings: the season coincides with the grape harvest, and autumn is the best time to get to know Aosta Valley wines, such as those from Grosjean Vins, a historic winery in the valley. In collaboration with the Pila Consortium, Grosjean organizes themed evenings dedicated to wine and food.
- Picnics in the vineyard and farmers’ markets: experiences that combine conviviality and sustainability. You’ll have the opportunity to meet local producers and taste mountain cheeses, artisanal cured meats, honey, and preserves.
