The X-Track En-Rage Plus is Look’s latest addition to the Trail pedal category, boasting a host of interesting features that make it more than just a simple attempt to enter this crowded market.
French brand Look developed the first clipless bicycle pedal in 1984, and while the name isn’t currently synonymous with mountain bike pedals, it does produce some excellent models.
This is the Enduro version (67mm) of the X-Track En-Rage, which measures 63mm wide for a contact surface of 545mm2. This pedal features a forged and machined aluminum body, which is stronger than an extruded body, but also a little heavier.
The pedal boasts a generous 664 mm squared of surface area for the shoe to interface with, promising great stability. The engagement mechanism is very similar to that of a Shimano SPD, and the cleats are also compatible, but Look’s system extends to the rear and supports the cleat from the sides, giving a slightly different feel to the engagement.
Look uses what it calls Lateral Contact Support, its term for a larger amount of pedal body supporting the shoe. The French brand claims this helps guide the foot into position and prevents disengagement.

Adjustments
The adjustable release tension ranges from medium to strong (index 6-14). If you’re the type of cyclist who loves a super stable platform between shoes and pedals, these Look X-Track En-Rage Plus are for you. The angular freedom is 6° while the release angle is 13°, values in line with the most reputable competitors in the sector.
The two pins installed on the front edges are height-adjustable or removable, and the SPD-compatible cleats are interchangeable with Shimano SH-56 multi-release cleats. Look also offers X-Track Easy cleats, with multi-angle release for greater safety while riding, and therefore more suitable for beginners or those seeking comfort above all.

Dimensions and weight
The forged aluminum body of this platform pedal, along with its relatively tall profile (17mm), adds some weight: 225g for the single unit, while the cleat weighs 25g (450g for the pair, 500g for the complete set).
Weight isn’t everything, but it’s an important consideration for many and may be enough of a drawback to keep them away from crank ends.
Who are they for?
Riders who struggle with durability with extruded aluminum pedals may be drawn to forged bodies. Additionally, those who struggle with clipless pedals will appreciate the killer grip these Look pedals offer, even while still being compatible with Shimano SPD cleats.
But if you have ground clearance issues due to a particularly low bottom bracket on your trail bike, then you might want to look for something with a slimmer profile.
