Pierre Mortefon takes victory in Slalom X, while Matteo Iachino and Maciek Rutkowski complete the podium
The wind continued to blow on the final day of Slalom X at the 2025 Fuerteventura PWA Grand Slam, forcing most sailors to once again resort to smaller equipment for the final heats of what was an absolutely fantastic competition. Pierre Mortefon (FMX Racing) took control of the competition yesterday afternoon and quickly sealed the deal by winning the first race of the day and taking the lead in the World Tour.
Pierre Mortefon started the day with a 5.6-point lead after securing back-to-back wins yesterday afternoon, and the Frenchman continued his winning streak today, completing a brilliant hat-trick that allowed him to close out the event with two races remaining. The reigning world champion then secured his fourth consecutive victory by winning the opening long-distance race after edging out Nico Prien (JP / NeilPryde), before finishing the week with another solid second-place finish, capping off a remarkable performance, especially considering everything Mortefon had to endure prior to this event.
With the event win already decided, a battle still awaited between Matteo Iachino (Starboard / Severne Sails / Z Fins) and Maciek Rutkowski (JP / NeilPryde) to decide second and third place. The two engaged in a stunning battle in the first long-distance race, playing a game of cat and mouse, before Iachino gained the upper hand in the closing stages and took third place ahead of Rutkowski. However, the deciding race was somewhat disappointing, with Rutkowski starting early and being disqualified, handing second place to the Italian. Iachino nevertheless won the final heat, leaving the result beyond doubt, while Rutkowski rounded out the podium.
