In a tense men’s final at the 2025 GWA Wingfoil Surf-Freestyle Championship, Benji Castenskiold (DEN), Axel Gerard (FRA), Aleks Acherer (AUT), and Xavi Corr (AUS) went head-to-head with the world title on the line. Gerard stole the show early with a flawless double backflip, earning a perfect 10, but consistency kept Castenskiold in contention. As the pressure mounted, Acherer and Corr faltered, leaving the battle between Gerard and Castenskiold. A fall by Gerard on the final stroke opened the door for the 14-year-old Dane, who claimed both the event victory and his first world title in his full debut season.
The women’s competition featured outstanding performances. Reigning world champion Nia Suardiaz (ESP) opened the third round with a clean backflip, while Marie Schlittenbauer (GER), fresh from her victory in Fuerteventura, dominated with a massive Palau Frontside 3 and an elegant frontflip, scoring 25.87 points. Mar de Arce (ESP) and Manon Dupé (FRA) also advanced directly to the semifinals.
In the fourth round, Bowien van der Linden (NED) demonstrated precision and control, winning her heat, with Allegra Caffi (ITA) joining her after a consistent performance. Zara Maillard (SUI) and Viola Lippitsch (AUT) completed the semifinal lineup. The women’s title will be decided tomorrow, on the final day of competition.
