Columbia Sportswear is bringing back one of the most authentic symbols of its outdoor history: the Bugaboot™ 1, the iconic boot created in 1993 through the collaboration between brand founder Gert Boyle, current CEO Tim Boyle, and legendary designer Peter Moore.
More than thirty years later, the historic model returns in a limited-edition special edition—only 1,993 numbered pairs—available starting October 15th.

A tribute to creativity and innovation

The original Bugaboot marked Columbia’s official entry into the world of footwear, a decisive step for a brand already known for the iconic Bugaboo™ 3-in-1 jacket.
Designed to combine the ruggedness of a work boot with the comfort and lightweight feel of a sports shoe, it quickly became a benchmark in the international outdoor scene.

It was designed by Peter Moore, a key figure in the history of sports design.
Known for creating the first Air Jordan and its iconic logos during his time at Nike, and later as Global Creative Director of adidas, Moore brought his essential and functional vision to Columbia, translating it into a shoe with a strong and timeless character.

“More than thirty years ago, my mother and I knew it was time to literally expand Columbia’s footprint into footwear,” says Tim Boyle, Chairman, President & CEO of Columbia Sportswear.
“Peter was our first and only call. He shared Gert’s obsession with design as a solution to problems, and that made him the natural partner to launch a new chapter in our story.”

The return of a legend

Today, the Bugaboot 1 returns in a version faithful to the original design, but enhanced by the most advanced technologies developed by Columbia:

  • Omni-Grip™, for confident traction on any terrain;
  • Techlite™, for ultra-lightweight and responsive cushioning.

Every detail of the model reflects the graphics and proportions of 1993, updated with modern materials and even more refined workmanship.
Each pair is individually numbered and accompanied by dedicated packaging, complete with a personalized box, keychain, and exclusive tissue paper—a tribute to its design legacy.

“Seeing Columbia bring the Bugaboot back to life with such care and respect for our father’s original design, but also with today’s technological advancement, is something he would have been immensely proud of.”

A limited edition with authentic value

Only 1,993 pairs will be distributed worldwide, exclusively on Columbia.com and at select global retailers.
In Europe, the model will be available through major wholesale partners and online channels.
The retail price is set at €200.00.
